Lots of locals like itas a support to merlot – a la Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Others see it blended with cabernet sauvignon as they do on the Left Bank and in Margaret River. We’ll try Cabernet Franc solo as they do in Chinon.
A taste-off comprising top flight shiraz from the Clare Valley, Canberra District, Hawkes Bay and the Rhône. We’ll start with a bracket of the best from each region with the final bracket a shiraz from each of the aforesaid regions – served blind.
This is the first time the GTWINE Magazine Top Tasting panel has undertaken an in-depth tasting of these new (to our shores) wave Italian varieties. The results were interesting with a number of new arrivals like sagrantino and nero d’avola showing great promise. This is a casual, stand-up, self-pour tasting. Antipasti will be served.
